my friend has a 94 Plymouth acclaim 2.5L TBI SOHC that was overheating she took it to the dealer she bought it from and they replaced the head gasket, about a month later she stop at the store came out and it wouldent start.I came out to look at it and I thought it was the timing belt but it was still intact and tight so i removed the valve cover to see if it had slipped or a valve spring broke and I found the camshaft broken right after the first lobe. my question is could this be the result of the dealerships headgasket replacement improperly done. just want to know if their is enuff reason to demand a refund or free repair of this new problem.
Also if I replace it can I Do it without pulling the head or will it need machine shop work.

You may ask the shop that did the head gasket if they will accepp some responsibility. Most places have warranty on the repairs. However, it may be hard to prove they caused it to break. Try talking to them reasonably first. If you go in demanding, they will stonewall you for quite a while. Try to keep cool and explain the situation. If you have a copy of the RO where the repair was completed it may help. If you want to do it yourself, it is a fairly simple process.(If you are mechanically inclined). It is a moderate difficulty job. Just make sure the timing belt is on correctly and the belt is not tensioned too tight or too loose. Just make sure the cam journals are not damaged. Look them over closely to be sure they are smooth and no nicks or gouges. Good luck and keep us posted.
