i have a 1991 toyota celica gt. 2.2. liter 140,000 miles. recently the e brake light keeps coming on, especially at high acceleration and when going up hills. it started happening after we moved into my house iwth a downhill driveway and we use the e brakes all the time. my moms 99 camry has recently had the same problem. it usually goes away or if i push the release button it will go away quicker but can i fix this or is it just too costly to do for an old car? ne advice would be appreciated.

Maybe check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder, there is a floating switch in there that will turn the dash warning light on if the fluid starts to get down to a certain level. That would kind of explain why the light comes on when you’re on a hill. If the level is down, I suggest having the brakes checked for a leak in the system or whether the brakes are worn and the fluid has been displaced to the wheels. Brake fluid doesn’t get used up, like what motor oil could be, it’s supposed to be a confined hydraulic system. Dan.
