Engine Performance problem 1999 Chrysler Cirrus 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 103000 miles
I notice that when at a stop while in gear, my rpms will drop down to the first line (500?) and the oil light will come on. The engine acts like it wants to die but doesn't.
also, I've had a mechanic check it out and put it on the diagnostic scanner they have. No codes came back. Notice that this only happens once the car has warmed up to the max safe temp..

Idle/Low speed. Hi gdaddyb... I have read your concern, and the thought that immediately jumps to mind is , which circuit in the air flow is cause you grief. That would be the idle/low speed circuit. Similar to my earlier response in another post, I have to refer your mechanic to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). In fuel injected systems the circuits originally controlled and metered by the carburetor have been taken over by devices such as the MAS/MAP, ACU, TPS, ECM etc... Whenever my customers complain to me about poor idle, idle fluctuation, poor gas mileage at low speed, I will immediately focus on the TPS. This device is the primary controller of the idle/low speed circuit, and used in starting.
Test this device. Check to ensure it passes voltage and ohms checks. I think you may find it has gone bad.
PS....when did you change your O2 sensors? These devices also can have an impact on engine idle, and poor engine performance. If you haven't ever changed these, I recommend you do it. Even before you replace the TPS, try these devices first. Let us know how it goes, and if we can help further...IDOL
