Im looking for some direction to trouble shoot the issue i am having, its a 91 cavalier , car starts up fine and idles perfect but when you put it in drive and give it alittle gas it starts falling on its face with no power and struggle to get to 20mph. when you try to go up a hill you have to put it down in first and put it to the floor and it barely make sit up and still not going above 20 mph. last night i changed the fuel filter and also put new ingnition coils on and check the wires and plugs on the car. Anyone ever experience this before? any help or suggestions are apprecited thanks

Hello rob, You have replaced some of the parts that are usually the culprits when an engine experiences the symptom your describing. Because you have said that the vehicle idles fine but has no power, if you were to bring the car to me, one for the first things I would check is the engine timing. From your description, it sounds as if your engine has jumped time. Possibly only a tooth or two, not enough to cause damage, but enough to make the vehicle feel as if it has a lawn mower engine powering it. Check your timing, see if it's moved. Also another item to check that causes almost the same symptoms but not exactly, is your catalytic converter. If you brought the vehicle to me, this is where I'd begin. Check these items and come back and tell us what you found....and we'll go from there. .... IDOL
