1999 4 runner with v6 automatic. I have 3 symptons the antifreeze is foamy and the overtflow tank is overflowing and I am low on automatic transmission fluid. Is it possible that the transmission fluid in forcing it's way into the raditor via the lower cooling section? How do I insure I don't have a blown head gasket?

Yes if there is a rupture in the coil that carries the trans fluid through the cooling tank it could be pumping oil into the rad. Is the coolant a milky color and how fast is the trans fluid going down? As for the head gasket there are three ways to tell, one is if there is excessive white smoke (steam) coming out the tail pipe. Another is if the engine oil has gone a milky color and your loosing coolant and the last is to check if there are combustion gases in the cooling system. Using what is called a block tester can test for these gases, you can get them at most part supply stores. Here’s a site that will explain it better then I would. There are other symptoms that go along with head gasket failures but the block test will tell you easily if there is a concern. www.arrowheadradiator.com/head_gasket_or_combustion_leak_test.htmDan.
