O.K.Guys, here we go. First official car post. Sam (kauty from TMM) is trying to fix brakes on this 95 Geo. He called me and said the right front brake caliper is impossible to depress until he opens bleeder. Now it gets interesting. He said he replaced the caliper 2 times, the brake hose and master cylinder. Problem still persists. How is this brake system split? Front to rear, or diagonal? Possibly proportioning valve? I told him to jack vehicle up and see if any other wheels are dragging. The car is a pizza delivery friend of his and I think he is looking for free pizzas. I met him in town and he is sincere about helping people. So I don't think there is any BS to his story. Thanks.

I honestly don’t know how that one is set up. I can’t find any decent info at the moment. Unfortunately I don’t have AllData at home. I really wish I did, it would make this kinda thing a lot easier. Usually when I get something like this I start breaking the brake lines loose to isolate the problem area. Is this 4W ABS or do we know? I’m off tomorrow but I have to go by the shop anyway, I’ll take a look at AllData if I can remember and see what’s what.

I’ll do the same tomorrow when I get to the shop Tom. That’s if I can figure out the new Mitchell 5 format. Just got it on Friday and it’s looks a lot different in the menu anyway. The colored wiring diagrams seem kind of neat.

The system is connected diagonally. The description in Mitchell says that the rear service port of the master is for the right front/left rear. You would think that there would be a residual check valve for the rears somewhere to hold the cylinders out. If so has someone replaced steel lines and mixed up front to rear? An easy way to find out where the pressure is being held would be to start cracking lines open and work your way back to the master. I’ll keep looking after the morning rush is over here. Dan.

I didn’t find anything more on AllData then Dan did, it just had rather vague, generic information. It wasn’t even definitive on how the system is split on the Prism, it showed diagrams of both systems but did not say which systems applied to which vehicles. Unless Dan can come up with something Sam may have to start cracking the lines open.
Just a thought: I have had new flex hoses collapse internally and cause problems a couple of times. I have also seen the hoses get twisted during installation and cause problems, but I doubt that’s the case here.
