2001 Buick Lesabre Limited, 65,000 miles, driven by old lady (really!), air shocks, no damage, nothing Loose. Problem: When hitting a bump or pothole, the rear and pitches sharply sideways. Had it up on hoist, nothing loose or damaged. Wheel bearings tight. Front end seems to be aligned OK, steering wheel is centered, car does not pull to the side. When rear end bounced manually, both sides seem to bounce equally and level but when hitting a pothole or bump, rear end pitches sideways...enough to be dangerous, especially on slick roads. Kelly tires. Any ideas? Thanks, Muggs

Change your shocks!! Left/right drifting when hitting speedbumps, pot holes , etc..... , would tell me that you have a "Loose" ride.
Try this quick test. Go to the either side of the rear of your car. Place both hands on the end of the fender and press the car body down once. Notice if the body seems to move down easily (it shuld be very stiff) and then let go and notice if it appears bounce as it returns to its riding height (it should return slowly and smoothly). Repeat this for the 3 remaining corners.
I am sure you will find the shocks have or are in the process of failing. Let us know what you find....IDOL

Idol, I just read your reply....thank you very much. I'll check it out pronto. In fact, I may just replace the rear shocks and go from there. Thanks again, Muggs

Idol, I bounced each corner of the car and wasn't able to detect any noticeable difference in behavior but I picked up a set of rear shocks today and will replace them as soon as we get some weather warm enough to lie on my back in the garage and work. I'll let you know how it goes.
I've started another thread about this same car but a different problem. Any help will be appreciated. Muggs

IDOL, I replaced the rear shocks on the Buick yesterday and the problem seems to be solved. I haven't noticed any sidewise pitching today and I've hit quite a few potholes. I would say the problem, thanks to you, no longer exists. Thanks you very much I sincerely appreciate the help. Muggs
