Hi guys, before I ask my colleagues and board visitors for their help I want to send my wishes to all of you for a wonderful new year. On to my problem. A neighbor brought his 1994 , Mitsubishi 3000 to me because of a persistent fast idle. The engine idles at 2100-2500 rpm. Of course the first thing I told him was to take it somewhere and have the codes pulled. Unfortunately the on board computer system is an OBD1 so to pull the codes takes the unique adapter that only the dealer keeps on hand. So resorting to my experience and some references concerning this engine, I found the the TPS was bad. WE replaced that part, at $160.00 and although the idle did drop to just under 2000rpm , it is still very high.
Next I tried to idle it down using the air flow adjustment screw. I have run the screw completely in , which, according to theory, should have cut the air flow to the idle circuit off. It did not! So I replaced it. Again the idle dropped some but not into the recommended 850-1000rpm range.
From this point I'm at a loss for ideas. So to my friends here, I would like to ask if anyone is familiar with this problem relating to this particular engine?
Anything anyone can off would be great. Following are the vehicle stats:
1994, Mitsubishi, 3000, V-6 163,000miles Standard Transmission OBD1 computer
Thank you all for any help you can offer............
