Hi,
I am new hear, and have a question about my old 1994 Buick Skylark that has the V6 in it.
Now, it's an old car, has 170,000 miles on it, but up until today it's been very reliable and a great "work" car for me.
Anyway, this morning I go out and start it up and warm it up, defrost my windows, etc etc. Put it into drive and head on down the road, get about 1/2 mile from home, it just sputters and dies, I coast to a stop. Put it in park. Try restarting. The car will start up every time, but after it runs about 3-5 seconds it dies out again. I can't keep it running.
What would be the cause of this? Fuel pump? fuel injection? I pretty much take care of all the cars problems myself, like replacing brakes, strutts, installed a new starter, etc etc. So I am pretty handy. How do I find out what's wrong, and could I install the fuel pump myself? Or could this be something like a clogged fuel filter??
Any input or help would be appreciated.
Thanks Dan

I would put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Should have key on engine off 41 to 47 PSI and 31-44 at idle. How long has it been since you changed the fuel filter because I would change it before I put a pump in it. Is the gas tank full of gas, because the pump is in the tank. If you do the job yourself I would suggest getting some PB Blaster penetrating oil and spray the bolts that hold the fuel tank strap up, spray them a few hours in advance because they are ususally rusted up.Mike

Thanks for the replys guys. I don't think I'll need to remove the tank..at least not yet. I replaced the fuel filter, it was pretty much shot. and while under the hood I also replaced all the sparkplugs, and stuff, kinda give the engine a complete tune up. Started it up and it runs just fine now. So I guess I get to wait on that fuel pump for a little longer. Dan
