Greetings... I have a 1994 Caprice Classic LS, 4.3 V-8, that doesn't want to give up any warm air in the 'Heat' position... This model has the "Reverse Flow" coolant system, water pump replaced 2 years ago, thermostat changed last year {no heat before new thermo either}... Auto parts guy suggested checking the 'heater control valve" for a clog..this is inline on the lower hose from the water pump, hose clamped on one side and inserted into a metal 'crimped' end on the other.. Will this piece be easily removed, or is it neccesary to cut the hose before the metal end..seems like a major step to check for a clog in a $12 piece... Any other advise would greatly be appreciated..its gettin chilly in the AM.....

try feeling the heater hoses for equal temp.

Thanks for the advice...I un-did the clamp on the one end of the valve, and just as it popped loose I realized that it is a closed, pressurized system..before I could curse at myself for not opening the 'overflow', a large chunk of crap flew out followed immediately by coolant...Presto! 'Sahara' heat!! If I had opened the cap, maybe the valve would have remained clogged..Sometimes 'errors' work out.... Thanks again..Ricarus

What a tip to give to people!!!!! ;D All I need to know for sure is the temperature of the coolant. Might try to get retired and oldtimer to try it one day. Glad it was a cheap repair and glad you are not injured. Sorry you old guys. Had to do it.

I DID have enough sense to let the engine cool down before I attempted any surgery... I watched a guy at a gas station once open a HOT rad cap and the results weren't pretty.. The paramedics showing up kind of summed the whole thing up...
Its been 2 weeks and the Sahara winds are still blowing from the ol' Caprice's vents.... I love it when a plan comes together...
