Need some info on the procedure for replacing the c lutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bushing on a 1988 F 150 4 wd. Truck has 5.0 L 302 cid, fuel injection, and has 154000 miles on it, and also has the 4 speed w/ od trans.

It’s pretty basic work to remove the transmission and clutch assembly but for me to give you a step by step procedure would be quite a novel. If you can’t see how the trans will come out on your own, I suggest purchasing a manual that would explain the procedure. It’s not that I don’t want to help but doing a copy and paste from my manuals; brings in copyright issues that I do not want to get involved with. Now if you had a specific question to ask and you’re stuck on something; I would be more then willing to try and answer. As in looking it up in my manuals or knowing from experience that’s not a problem. Because there are something’s that are do’s and don’ts when it comes to the installation of a new clutch. Sorry I haven’t been of more help so far but I’ll keep checking in and if you need anything I/we’ll try and be here for you. Dan.

hey Dan we got the clutch changed out, just gotta put the trans back in the truck. Say, we found that the tranny has either dexron 2 or mercon in it . Is this right? Shouldn't it have 80/90 in it?

Some manual trans bid take auto fluid so it’s no surprise that yours might. What fluid came out, was it red or clearer like diff oil? I suggest using whatever came out. I’m at home right know so I can’t look it up; as to what the factory fill was but there may have been an update to switch it to automatic fluid to cure a hard cold shifting problem. Dan.
