I have a 2003 HYUNDAI SONATA 6 Cylinders 02656 2.7L MFI DOHC Reciently I replaced the front disc pads. With the inexpensive metal pads. No rotor was replaced. anyway, the caliper must have been dragging, and sent some of the dust airborn, and and I see some small metal filings sticking to the rubber boot that protects the anit lock brake sensor. I am now replacing the rotors and pads. but a few days after this problem started, the yellow engine light came on. Im wondering , I dont think that a brake issue would cause this light to come on. Wouldnt it be a different light for the brakes, if the metal filings were to interupt the sensor? Thanks for your time. Allan

bedlam hello, you are correct in your assumption. If you were suffering a brake problem for example a faulty ABS sensor, you would be getting either an ABS light or a brake light. Look in your owners manual for the illustrationr picture that shows the placement and type indicator lights on your instrument panel. Find the light you are refering to and read the description of what the light is supposed to be indicating. If I'm not mistaken in a Hyundai the engine light is connected to the emmisions system. But before we go further into the troubleshooting please check what the light is and come back here and let us know what you find out. Then we can give you a much better answer to your problem. But to answer your question, NOPE, the brake system should affect the engine light. IDOL

I put the OBD 2 scan tool on it and got one code. PO456 the manual says this for a description.. EVAP EMMISION CONTROL SYSTEM LEAK VERY SMALL
I belive the brake trouble and this are seperate issues. Just can about the same time . (within the last week). . New rotors and pads will fix the brake trouble. Hopefully this control sysytem will ring a bell with someone. Thanks so much already... Allan

The small evap leak can be anything from a gas cap seal that is not seated properly, a connection in a hose that is not sealing properly, a small hole in a line somewhere, a vent valve that is not seating properly during the test, or various other things in the system. About the only way to find it is to take it to a shop that has a "smoke machine" to find leak. Those are not easily cured unless you are really lucky. Good luck and let us know
