I suffered multiple problems with one of my 1994 1.8 TD escorts. The electric windows wouldn't work, and when i tried to use them, a high pitch squealing noise came from a speaker, on the opposite side of the car from my fuel cap but roughly in the same position. One of the headlights wouldn't work on main beam, or full beam, it would stay dipped. When i turned the lights on, the noise would sound as above. Also the central locking wouldn't work either.
I went to an auto electrician, and he told me that escorts from 1990- roughly 1996 have a design fault in the fuse-box. He said that it usually starts with one electrical problem, but then it will escalate into multiple electrical problems. He told me i should test it, and replace it if it was faulty. I didn't test it, i just replaced it with the fuse box from my other car (which I'm now using for spares) and all of the problems disappeared. Some of you may already know about this problem, but i searched the net for ages and found nothing, when i had the problems, so i thought that this info might help somebody in the same situation. I hope it helps. Cheers, john

Hi Johnboy, I have read your post over a few times and you,ve raised my interest. May I ask what type symptoms you suffered before you changed the fuse box? And what was fixed after the fuse box was swappedout? This is probably something I should file in my mental repair chest in case I encounter this sometime later. IDOL
