Hi tom, Just thought i might give this site a try.
There is a chevy truck 1500 1988 with loose steering. So I changed the Idle arm after noticing that there was alittle bit of a vertical play in the tire when i shook it. I did not think it was necessary to change the Pitman arm becuase, i did not notice any exessive play when i shook the front tiers after replacing the Idle arm. So with that said, right now i noticed loose steering only when i turn right i have to correct the steering while i am driving to keep the car driving straight.
Do you think i need to replace the Pitman arm too? Could i have over tightened the Idle arm to the center link Rod?
Thanks Tom

Howdy Sam. Good to see you. If all steering components are good and it has a wander to it, I would give a guess as the steering box. Before condemning it, check all suspension and steering. This included ball joints, tie rods, make sure tire pressures are equal. If it steers loose to the right and normal to the left, i would lean to the box. One of the GM guys mght have more insight on this. Oh Dan and retired-----Where are you

I have nothing to add Tom I think you gave the best advice anyone could have. If Sam is not sure take it in and have the front end inspected by a professional and then go and repair it with that guidance. It’s steering the same as brakes don’t take any chances. Dan.

Ditto here . If the box is worn to the point of sloppy steering it would need to be replaced. However the pivot ball is on the pitman arm and could be worn. As others have stated get an inspection from a mechanic . Without steering your truck is an unguided missile.
