Hey guys after 4 years of not giving me much trouble this darn Taurus is starting to makeup for lost time . Now it is losing steering fluid. I looked and can't find a leak anywhere. The only thing I found was after you drive about 12 miles or so it loses about half the reservoir of fluid. so last night when I got home I filled it up and put the cap back on and in about 5 minutes it was seeping out of the top of the cap through what looks like a vent hole. Any idea what could cause this back pressure I was thinking maybe the filter ? I don't know.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but usually it is because of the rack and pinion . That is the only way we have cured them. You can try the filter first(cheaper). Maybe someone else has had good luck with a simpler repair.

The filter should be on the frame just to the rear of the drivers front wheel. It is easily removed from under the car. Looks similar to a fuel filter. Good luck. Hope that is all it is.

Hey way2old, Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner . This whole going back to work thing has me going in circles . Well after the last time I checked the fluid it has not lost any since then but now after running dry a few times the pump is definitely hurt. It's quite a workout driving to work . So this weekend I will replace it and the filter. Then cross my fingers ;D
