1994 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4.3 vortec auto 133,000 miles
When you turn the ignition switch to start the vehicle, nothing happens. I chekced the battery, alt, starter and all are getting 12 volts. There was an alarm on the vehicle but it has been disabled for some time. It ran all last year without a hitch and now I am going to drive it for winter and it drove home fine. The next morning I get this. Any ideas?
Thanks Tim

Do the dash warning lights come on when the ignition is turned on? If not, look at the ignition switch located on the top of steering column under the dash.

All of the warning lights come on, but the gauges read the wrong things. The bateery gauge reads that it is low, the temp gauges reads it is hot when it is not. The service engine soon light stays on. All of the lights go off when I try to turn it over. Then they reset and sometimes the fuel pump will kick back on, like you just turned the key.

Hi 00metallic, Some times the starter motor jams up. Try having someone hold the key in the start position while you tap the starter with a hammer. Make sure the vehicle is in park and their foot is on the brake pedal.

Oldtimer5520 is right that the starters jam up but don’t go beating the crap out of it or you may just create a problem. These starters use permanent magnets not elector magnets and if you hammer on the case to hard you’ll crack these magnets, once that happens they’re junk. Dan.
