I have a 1996 Acura Integra LS. 89,000 miles, Automatic, V6.
I got into my car.....started it, (car was in park mode, obviously) as my foot pushed down on the brake...a clicking noise immediately occurred.....coming from the PARK,DRIVE,REVERSE,NEUTRAL panel of the car. I kept pushing the brake down back and forth and it seems to click everytime I push the brake down. I never had any tranny problems. The car runs great, I was wondering what exactly this could be? a fuse? My parking brake is up..so initially i push down the brake and then push down the parking brake. ONCE I push the parking brake down...I then push down the brake and thats when the clicking noise occurs. Could this have something to do with my parking brake.

I think what you’re likely hearing is the shift lock solenoid. It’s a device that locks your shifter into park and will not allow it to come out of park, until you depress the brake pedal. It’s not unusual to be able to hear the solenoid when it’s activated, why yours has become more noticeable I don’t know. It wouldn’t hurt to open the consoled up and have a look see to make sure that the solenoid is still being securely held in its bracketing. Dan.

Dan, Thank you for your expertise. You were absolutely right. It was the solenoid. It is a normal noise that for some reason I picked up on..and got super paranoid about. To prove my point....my sister so happens to have the same car, make, model, year, etc. I pushed her brake down..and it makes the same noise. Thank you. -Paranoid guy.

Never ignore noises and you are not paranoid my best customers are the ones that listen to their vehicles and ask questions. Thanks for the follow up. Dan.
