Hey guys. 97 Taurus, 3.0 flex fuel, automatic. This vehicle came in with a small groan during cold driving. It stayed for about 10 minutes and dissappeared. Sounds like classic "morning sickness". Drove the vehicle and did not notice anything abnormal. Hoewver, since my brain works a little differently than most, I had tech check the power steering pressure switch. This proved to be a good SWAG. The switch was faulty and was not allowing the PCM to raise the idle to compensate for the extra load on engine. Test is simple. It is an on/off switch. Unplug switch and install ohmmeter. Has continuity at idle in straight ahead position, opens just before reaching lock in either direction. The one we had kept continuity all the way through the sweep of steering. So this is a quick test for a steering problem that causes(as my tech said)funny noises on turns. Hope it helps someone in the future.
